POITRA was asked by the city to provide photosimulation design visualization. The city of Stockton Department of Public Works was familiar with POITRA work from past I-5 Interchange projects.
The Engineer provided all the base photographs from a corridor photo survey.
At the Otto Drive location existing street trees growing in the right-of-way needed to be removed to allow additional lanes. The background behind these trees had to be restored using reference photographs and traditional digital painting techniques.
POITRA artists carefully laid in the new lane configuration, with curbs, walks, drive cuts, lane markings, and relocated street lighting. This section of Thornton required a new buffer between the widened roadway and nearby residences. Several options were proposed for the buffer. They included street trees, hedges and a sound wall. An alternate simulation was created for each.
The previous bridge and roadway design experience of the POITRA Visual principals made the process quick and smooth.
The final existing and proposed alternate photosimulation images were used in the public outreach process conducted by the City of Stockton. The images were set in graphic display boards to be printed for community meetings and also used on the City's project website.
