The EA upgraded and widened Arapahoe Road and replaced the existing three-span I-25 structure with a longer two span structure. The new pier and abutment configuration was necessary to correct the odd lane arrangements the existing pier locations forced on Arapahoe Road.
POITRA photographers selected a vantage point that focused on the odd lane arrangement and the corrections but could be expanded to panorama form to also give good views of the new abutments, retaining walls and proposed landscaping. This could prove useful in designing aesthetic treatments.
Thanks! These look great! This is just what we need to show everyone what the project will accomplish.

POITRA artists began the simulation by replacing the bridge and then laying out the new lane configuration from CADD plans.
The new elements were added and and the old elements removed using traditional digital painting techniques. Particular effort was expended creating the new background areas previously hidden by the existing bridge abutments and piers.
Portions of the large panorama include aesthetic treatments to abutments, retaining walls and landscaping. The new Arapahoe Road median too was the subject of urban landscape design. POITRA artists emulated aesthetic treatments and landscaping similar to many south I-25 interchanges to complete these areas.
CDOT and Arapahoe County used the simulations in design meetings with the special citizens Action Committee, and area residents during the EA public process. The simulations also appeared in the EA documents.
